Logging into Virtual Classes: Known Issues and Possible Solutions
KNOWN ISSUES & POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS TO STUDENTS ACCESSING VIRTUAL CLASS WITH AN COMPANY EMAIL, COMPANY COMPUTER OR THROUGH A PLACE OF BUSINESS:
Students using a company email address, accessing their class from a place of business, or using a computer/laptop supplied by their employer should be aware that there can be issues with accessing Microsoft Teams classes due to security/firewall/domain issues set up by employers and/or their IT support. This is not something CITC has access to or can fix, so we ask that students take a moment to view potential solutions to these issues below.
If you are using a company email to sign up for class, you may experience issues allowing you to access your virtual class. Trying signing up for class using a personal email (such as a gmail account). If you had already registered for class with a company email and would like to change it, just contact the CEU Department a minimum of 24 hours prior to class at email@example.com or toll-free at 877-238-8646 with the email you would prefer.
Using a Company Computer/Laptop
Students who are utilizing a company provided computer or laptop, regardless of it is on their jobsite or at home, can run into firewall and other security issues put in place by the IT department at your place of business. CITC has no way of changing these settings. You have a few options that we have found work for other students: Work with your company IT department to ensure that security features will not hinder your access; find a different device to use that was not set up by your company; or try logging into class through a web browser (such as Google Chrome) rather than attempting to access class through the downloaded desktop application. Make sure you log OUT of the desktop application before logging into Teams through a web browser.
Accessing Class from a Place of Business
If you are trying to log into class from a business or jobsite and are given error messages that say you do not have access or that access has been blocked, it’s likely that a security feature was put in place by the employer to safeguard against hacking. Try logging into class through a web browser (such as Google Chrome) rather than attempting to access class through the downloaded desktop application. Make sure you log OUT of the desktop application before logging into Teams through a web browser!
Students who would like to test their access may contact the CEU Department at CITC via email at firstname.lastname@example.org or toll-free at 877-238-8646 to set up a quick “class” with you to make sure everything is working properly. Please do not wait until the day of class to reach out to CITC. Support is not available on the day of class, please practice responsible actions and test your access at least 1 day prior to your first class. Students are responsible for ensuring they are able to access class and may be held financially responsible if unable to attend due to technical issues.
