Today’s Exam

  • The 4th Year Challenge Exam: Part 1 consists of a total of 60 Multiple Choice and/or True-False questions related to basic electrical theory and/or the National Electric Code (NEC)
    • 4th Year Challenge Exam: NEC consists of 53 questions.
    • 4th Year Challenge Exam: Theory consists of 7 questions.
  • The content of this exam is based on the 4th Year NCCER Curriculum taught in CITC’s Apprenticeship classes.
  • You must receive a minimum overall score of 70% to pass (42 out of 60 correct).
  • You have 180 minutes to complete this exam.
  • When you complete 4th Year Challenge Exam: Part 1, let your Exam Coordinator know prior to moving on to 4th Year Challenge Exam: Part 2.
  • You must pass 4th Year Challenge Exam: Part 1 in order to start 4th Year Challenge Exam: Part 2. If you did not pass 4th Year Challenge Exam: Part 1, please let your Exam Coordinator know.

Items Permitted in Exam Room

  • National Electrical Code (NEC) book
  • Index tabs are acceptable, but they cannot be removable.
  • Washington state laws, rules, and regulations – Chapters 19.28 RCW and Chapter 296-46B WAC. Printed copies must be bound or hole-punched and placed in a three-ring binder.
  • Any original, copyrighted material (for example, Ugly’s, Ferm’s Fast Finder, Soares Grounding).
  • Copyrighted materials can only have highlighting, underlining, and/or permanent index tabs.
  • Silent, non-programmable calculator.

Not Permitted in Exam Room: If you are found to have any of the items below on you, it will be considered an attempt to chart on the examination and you will be asked to leave.

  • Cell phones are not permitted in the exam room. If you have a cell phone with you, please let your Exam Coordinator know right now so that it can be removed from the room.
  • Materials containing handwritten notes, markings or other notations are not permitted in the exam.
  • Sticky notes are not permitted in the exam.
