Electrical Trainee

Electrical Trainee card holders are required to complete 48 hours of Basic Trainee Classes prior to renewing their trainee card every two years.

  • Electrical Trainee classes must be in-person; online courses are not permitted.
  • All of CITC’s Electrical Trainee classes are based on National Electric Code (NEC), RCW/WAC, or Theory and have been approved by Washington State L&I for basic classroom training. There are no specific topic requirements; you may choose any of these approved courses.
  • You cannot take the exact same class more than once within a single renewal cycle.
  • All trainees must pass an end of class exam with a minimum score of 75%. Students with testing anxiety, learning disabilities, or language barriers are encouraged to inform the instructor so that all efforts to ensure student success are made.

Electricians, Electrical Administrators & Master Electricians

24 Hours every 3 Years
Check Your License on L&I

Electricians, Electrical Administrator’s or Master Electricians (all license types/specialties) must complete 24 hours of continuing education prior to license renewal every three years. Continuing education hours must include:

8 hours NEC Code Update
4 hours RCW/WAC Update
12 hours Additional (NEC, RCW/WAC, or Industry Related)

  • Electricians, Administrators, and Master Electricians may take in-person, online, or a combination of both types of classes.
  • Electricians, Electrical Administrators, and Master Electricians may take any courses offered under the Electrical Trainee category (refer to course details for approved credit).
  • If attending an in-person class, you are required to participate in the end-of-class exam.
  • You cannot take the same class more than once within a single renewal cycle.

Plumber Trainee

8 Hours every 1 Year

Plumber Trainees must complete 8 hours of continuing education prior to annual license renewal. Each year continuing education hours must include (required categories will alternate from one year to the next):

8 hours Plumbing Code

OR

4 hours Industry Related Electrical
4 additional hours Plumbing Code, Industry Related Electrical or Industry Related Plumbing

  • Plumber Trainees may take in-person, online, or a combination of both types of classes.
  • You cannot take the exact same class more than once within a single renewal cycle.
  • Plumber Trainees may attend one of the basic electrical classroom courses CITC offers for their Industry Related Electrical hours.
  • CITC is unable to view private information concerning the hours reported on a Plumber Trainees previous license cycle. Courses that cannot be applied to your license because you had taken that credit type in the previous license cycle will not be transferred or refunded. Plumbers

24 Hours every 3 Years
Check Your License on L&I

Journeyman or Residential plumbers must complete 24 hours of continuing education prior to license renewal (every 3 years). Continuing education hours must include:

A minimum of 12 hours of Uniform Plumbing Code (Code), PLUS
A minimum of 4 hours of Industry-Related Electrical (IRE).
The remaining 8 hours can be in any Code, IRE, or Industry-Related Plumbing (IRP) area.

  • Plumbers may take in-person, online, or a combination of both types of classes.
  • You cannot take the exact same class more than once within a single renewal cycle.
  • Plumbers may attend one of the basic electrical classroom courses CITC offers for their Industry Related Electrical hours.
